Food Thief

Hunter likes people food. He begs for it a lot. His favorite thing is ham, he just loves it. He also likes Teddy Grams & Gold Fish crackers. I actually got him to roll over once for a Teddy Gram.
When the weather started to turn cold, I bought a crock pot. Just a small 2 qt. crock pot, just big enough for me.
One morning I decided to make chili in my crock pot. Then I'd have a nice hot meal when I got home from work. So, I filled the crock pot & turned it on. Then left for work. When I got home that night, the whole Apt. smelled of chili. "Ooh Yummy" I thought. Hunter was no where around...strange. I hung up my coat, took off my shoes, & pulled out Hunter's chair at the table (thinking this would get him to come out). I went into the kitchen & the lid was off the crock pot & laying on the counter.... When I turned around, Hunter was in his chair....with a red ring around his mouth & one red paw. "So, I've caught you red pawed." I said.
Hunter as a rule doesn't steal food. He will beg & beg till he gets a bite. But, if doesn't get any he just goes to his dry cat food & that's the end of it.
Not to long ago after work one night my friend & I stoped at Mr.Cinders for a bite. Most of the time we order the steak sandwich, but I notice they had spare ribs on special. I love Bar-B-Q ribs. But, the cup of clam chowder & the salad (the salad was very big & had lots of stuff in it) the girl brought out first was all I could handle. I couldn't eat the ribs. so I asked for a take out box.
When I got home I put the take out box on the chair near the hall & put my lunch box on top of it. I had to go to the bathroom.
When I came out of the bathroom, I picked up my lunch box (which was still sitting there) but the take out box was gone. I stepped into the living room & here was Hunter with rib bones all around him, & licking Bar-B-Q sauce off his paws. He did leave me the bread & Cole slaw. I guess the smell of the ribs was just to much for him.
Hunter picks his food up with his paws. Even his cat food. He sort of dips his paw into the food & licks it off. Some times on cold nights we share a bowl of clam chowder. He will reach over dip his paw in the bowl & lick it off. He loves to lick the yogurt lids.
But, those were the only 2 times he ever really took food. Most of the time he waits till it's offered.

Hunter does Not like.........

1. Cat Treats. Won't touch them, no kind. Not even Temptations.
2. The Lazer Pointer I spent 6 Bucks on. Hunter Meows his head off when I pick the thing up & trys to knock it out of my hand.
3. Bubbles. He ran in fear & hid under the bed when I was blowing bubbles for a friend & her 2 little girls.
4. Fish. Won't touch it, not even in canned food. When I cook fish at work, he trys to bury my apron under the bathroom rug.
5. Being Brushed. Hates it. I have to hold him down to brush him. I finely gave up & now send him to the Vet twice a year to be groomed.
6. A closed door. I have to leave all my doors opened, or he has a melt down.
7. The Apt. buliding fire alarm. I don't know where he goes when it goes off, but I can never find him.
8.His pet carrier. Don't ask.
9. The fish shaped pieces in his Meow Mix. Don't ask me why. He leaves them on the floor next to his food bowl.
10. The shower running. If I want him out of the bathroom, I just turn on the shower.

Hunter likes Rugs

I have no carpet in my Apt. all the floors are linoleum tile. So I have all these braded throw rugs around. And I use to wax the floors after I'd wash them.
One morning I was sitting at my dinningroom table drinking coffee, when Hunter came flying by on a rug, he put his head down & WHAM ! into the Apt. door. I got up to see about him, but he just looked at me like he was saying, "HA-HA, Fun."
He did this a lot. He'd get a running start, jump on a rug, put his head down & WHAM into the Apt. door or a wall. I was actually thinking about getting him a helmet he did it so much.
When I told the women I work with about it,they all said I was crazy, & didn't believe me.
One day a friend from work came up to my Apt. with me to get a book I was going to give her. As we came into the Apt. Hunter came out to do his "Meet & Greet." he's a people cat, he loves being around people. He might get pet or some food......you never know. When he seen he wasn't going to get either one, he went back into the bedroom. We stood in the livingroom talking....when Hunter came flying by on a rug.....& WHAM ! into the Apt. door. I swear I could have heard him saying "WEEEEEEEEE" that time.
OMG, did you see that ?" my friend said. "I told you he did that." I said. "Well, I seen it with my own eyes, & still don't believe it." She said.
I finely had to stop waxing the floors & got all non-skid rugs. I was really getting worried about Hunter hurting his head. The friend who had seen Hunter rug surfing even gave me a Non-skid rug with 3 gray kittens on it. I keep it by the Apt. door, & it's one of Hunter's favorite rugs. He will pick it up in his mouth & drag it all over the Apt. He just can't ride on it.

Hunter and Doors.

There was a lot of adjusting I had to do after I brought Hunter home. For one thing, he couldn't pass a door. He tried & tried to get out of the Apt. door. It was a fight to get out of the door in the mornings. As soon as that door opened, he was out & down the hall like a shot. I was late for work more than once. The door problem was just the start of me discovering just How smart Hunter really is. I started putting him on my bed right before I had to leave for work, that at least gave me a head start to the door. Little did I know he was watching me.......closely.
My Apt. door does not have a round door nob, it's a flat handle that pulls down. One night I was on my way to the bathroom, when I seen crazy cat at the door. He got up as far as he could on his back feet, then gave a jump with his back feet, grabbed the door handle.......& the game was all over. OMG I said.......as I ran down the hall to get him. Now I have to keep the Apt. door locked at all times. Even now, when I'm turning lights out & getting ready for bed, Hunter always checks the door to make sure it's locked.
With putting him on the bed every morning, & taking him for "Walks" up & down the hall way. He's finely gotten it into his head..........even if he does get out of the Apt. there's no place to go anyway (Oh yeah, I live on the 7Th floor). Unless he figures out how to use the elevator.........then I'm screwed.

Love at first sight

I once lived in Florida & had it all. A nice home, a nice man, a good job, & my pet Ferrets.
Till one day when the nice man had a stroke & died. Then it was all over, everything was gone. I was homeless, & felt lost & lonely. The nice man & I had never gotten married, & the state of Florida does not recognize common law marrages.
But, through a friend who lives in Wisconsin. I picked myself up, dusted myself off & moved here to Wisconsin. I soon found a pretty good job & a nice Apt. But, I still felt lost & lonely. I hated coming home to my empty Apt. My friend could tell there was still something missing from my life. So, one day he suggested we go & visit the Humane Society to "Just look around." We called & found out they had Ferrets. I was excited, I always talked about ferrets, & really wanted to adopt one. There were 5 furry little ferrets there that day, but while I was looking at them & trying to decide which one I wanted to spend some time with, I kept hearing a sad forlorn "Meow--Meow" coming from the cat section. It sounded so sad. The sound pulled me to the cage of a big gray cat laying in it. When he saw I was looking at him, he sat up & put his paws on the bars of the cage. It just pulled at my heart.
My friend had picked out a 6 month old kitten named Molly for me to look at. She was a nice kitten, playful & sweet. But, I kept hearing the forlorn "Meow--Meow" So, I asked the lady if I could see the big gray cat. "You mean Hunter." She said.
I sat in a chair & waited, when she brought him in & set him on the floor, he came right over to me & jumped up in my lap. He purred & purred. He even gave me little "Kitten Kisses." And, when I looked into those big golden eyes, it was love at first sight.
The lady told us Hunter was homeless, had no tail & because he was a year old nobody really wanted him.
Yup, homeless, not as attractive, old.........& nobody wants you. I could relate.
We spent an hour with Hunter that day. I didn't want to leave him. My friend even went to get the lady to bring the paperwork on him, so I could hold him a little longer.
The biggest thrill was when I came to sign the final paperwork & pay the fee. There was a sign on his cage that said......."I'm going Home."
I had to send Hunter to the Vet to have him neutered, but after that I could pick him up from the Vet & take him home.
Hunter still "Meows" a lot, but it's not the sad forlorn sounding Meowing he once did. and, I look forward to coming home from work every night.
He's not my pet.....He's my buddy.......my pal........my soul mate.
